First Bachelor Degree Completion Program to Start at COM in Fall 2018

Info session scheduled for March 6

KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—February 28, 2018—Sonoma State University (SSU) is launching a Bachelor of Science Business Degree Completion Program at College of Marin’s (COM) Kentfield Campus, with classes offered in the fall 2018 semester. This is the first program developed under the partnership established between COM and SSU in April 2017.

The program seeks to create a more accessible transfer pathway for students to SSU. Collaborations such as this stimulate communication and interchange between the two institutions and enhance the educational quality and reputation of both while reducing or eliminating achievement gaps for ethnic and socioeconomic groups within their respective student bodies.

Offering the Bachelor of Science Business Degree Completion Program on the Kentfield Campus will serve students who currently cannot transfer outside of Marin County to complete their degrees, often due to work or family obligations. Class schedules are designed with accessibility in mind, especially for adult learners.

SSU’s School of Extended and International Education and the School of Business and Economics will offer the final 60 units required to complete a bachelor degree, including all business major and other courses required for graduation (120 total units are needed). The degree’s area of concentration is management.

Degrees will be conferred by SSU, and are professionally accredited through the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) and the California State University system.

An information session will be held Tuesday, March 6, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in Academic Center, room 249, at the Kentfield Campus. Additional information about this program is available on the program website at https://web.sonoma.edu/exed/bus-dcp/

Interested students can contact COM Counselor Gina Cullen, (415) 485-9432, or SSU Program Advisor Susie McFeeters, (707) 664-2601.

About Sonoma State University
The SSU educational experience fosters intellectual, cognitive, social and personal growth. The faculty and staff provide collaborative relationships with students and an education that fosters ethical exploration, civic engagement, social responsibility, and global awareness combined with a solid foundation in an academic discipline. Many classes average fewer than 40 students, allowing close interaction between students and faculty.

SSU has a commitment to graduating students who have the ability to think critically and ethically and can effectively use information technology. There is a strong move to develop a global perspective in much of the curriculum to prepare students for the needs of the 21st-century workplace.

The University is comprised of six schools: Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Education, Extended and International Education, Social Sciences and Science and Technology. Degrees are offered in 46 majors and 47 minors at the bachelor's level and 15 at the master's level. There are nine credential programs and eight undergraduate and graduate certificate programs. SSU also offers one of the only Wine Business Institutes in the country.

About the School of Extended and International Education
The School of Extended and International Education (SEIE) plays two key roles at SSU access and partnership. Lifelong learning remains SEIE’s theme as an academic school. SEIE seeks to expand its programs, which range from the EXCEL for Youth program during summers to the Osher Lifelong Learning Program (OLLI) to workforce development programs for adults that are both degree-seeking and skills-based. SEIE plays a crucial role on SSU’s campus as a source of revenue for faculty and the campus overall. SEIE programs maintain at least a regional, competitive advantage in SSU’s service area with a mix of certificate programs and degree-completion/matriculation programs to remain the first choice for current and prospective students. To support SEIE’s mission and achieve its vision, SEIE makes investments in infrastructure and marketing to support faculty and curricular entrepreneurism.
