Marin County Registrar of Voters posted unofficial election night results showing College of Marin’s $265 million bond, Measure B, passed with 62.88 percent voting to approve the measure. The measure required a 55 percent supermajority to pass.

Transformation Grant will assist students in achieving their goals in fewer semesters

College of Marin, in partnership with Stanford University School of Medicine, Geriatric Medicine; and The Buck Institute for Research on Aging present the second Mini-Medical School—Medical Science and Aging.

California Community College Board of Governors approved plans to change the current accreditation structure. This move comes after college presidents and district chancellors voted for a dual approach to bring about this change.

For the third time in four years, Marin Community College District (District) has demonstrated its stewardship of tax dollars by refinancing an additional $47 million in general obligation bonds associated with Measure C. This action will result in net savings to taxpayers of $5.86 million over the life of the bonds.

College Board of Trustees voted unanimously to place a $265 million bond measure on the June 7, 2016, ballot to address needs identified in the 2014 facilities assessment.

College of Marin biotech students and employees in the workforce will soon have access to a new wet lab designed to simulate real-world environments thanks to a $50,000 grant from the Peter E. Haas Jr. Family Fund. The capital grant allows the College to retrofit and restore a state-of-the-art, multi-functional biotechnology laboratory at the Indian Valley Campus in Novato.

At the end of the spring 2015 semester, College personnel with offices in the Austin Center prepared for demolition of the building and packed to move into their new locations.

As part of College of Marin’s annual student-government elections, an item on this year’s ballot establishes the foundation for a new partnership with Marin Transit to improve transit service to its campuses and provide bus passes for local transit services. With 72 percent approval, College of Marin students voted in favor of a semester-based transportation fee for all students enrolled in one or more units of credit or noncredit instruction.

Performing Arts Instructor Paul Smith was honored at the annual Milley award dinner held at the Mill Valley Community Center. Smith received the Sali Lieberman Award, named in honor of the Marin Theatre Company founder and given to those who have contributed to the cultural life of Mill Valley.

Community Education Italian language instructor, Lido Cantarutti, has been acknowledged by the President of the Republic of Italy with the promotion and conferral of the title of Commendatore dell’Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana (Knight Commander of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Italy).

College of Marin is inducting six champions into the Athletic Hall of Fame this weekend, honoring the individuals whose spirit and commitment helped shape the College’s outstanding athletic programs today.

College of Marin will hold a celebration to commemorate completion of the final building project funded by Measure C—the Academic Center. The Capstone Celebration will recognize the many individuals whose work has contributed to a physical transformation of the campuses. It will also serve as an opportunity for the College to extend its appreciation to Marin County voters for their overwhelming support of the Measure C Modernization Bond passed in 2004.

Twenty-five incoming freshmen at Terra Linda High School and their families will be formally pledging to participate in a groundbreaking pilot program that brings College of Marin classes to a local high school. The goal of COMPASS, which stands for College Of Marin Providing Access and Supporting Success, is to shore up the educational future of promising students early in their education.
