Career Education and Workforce Development Department ramps up summer skill-building courses

NOVATO / KENTFIELD, CA—From business management to auto technology, College of Marin’s Career Education and Workforce Development Department is ramping up summer skill-building courses to respond to an anticipated need in the community.

“COM is a mission-driven institution and part of that mission is being responsive to community needs,” said Superintendent/President Dr. David Wain Coon. “We want to be of service in what we do best. Many are aware of our top-rate transfer programs or our strong learning communities, and this is an opportunity to discover the value of our career education programs.”

All summer course offerings will be online. The rapid response to an alternate way of delivering courses will include a brand-new virtual reality experience for students in the auto technology and collision repair classes.

The College had been pursuing this new technology to enhance hands-on learning, but ramped up efforts when the stay-at-home order was enacted. Faculty teaching auto technology and collision repair are currently partnering with the company TransfrVR to build virtual reality curriculum that will be piloted this summer.

Other skill-building summer course offerings include managerial accounting, computer information systems, hospitality management, and business. College of Marin will also offer an Effective Job Searching Strategies class this summer for those seeking employment.

For additional information contact Katheryn Horton, director of workforce programs.
