F1 International Student Update

July 14th, 2020 - 12:12am

Dear International Student,

While we are continuing to review the rules from SEVP/SEVIS regarding F-1 international students and online instruction for fall 2020 we can confirm that the College of Marin CREDIT program will be designated as hybrid (not entirely online) for the fall 2020 semester.

Since the CREDIT program will be designated as hybrid, and not entirely online, F1 students who wish to maintain their SEVIS record are required to remain in the US if continuing enrollment at College of Marin.

NOTE: We are still awaiting further clarification from SEVP regarding the following requirements:

F1 students may be required to enroll in at least one hybrid course at COM this fall. College of Marin is currently developing a low unit hybrid counseling course designed for international students. More information on this is coming soon.

Students who are currently outside of the US and cannot return to the US or who wish to return home will likely be required to work with a DSO regarding their SEVIS record. More information will be forthcoming on both of these particular topics.

Please do not make any adjustments to your schedule at this time.

We recognize how challenging it must be to have additional uncertainty during this time. We are working to solidify COM’s plans, as well as options and resources for you, all while the opposition to these new rules continue to grow across the nation.

We expect to have more information and instructions later this week.

Sincerely,

Jon Horinek
