Dead Accounts Up For Best Set Design and Two Best Production Awards

KENTFIELD, CA—This week COM’s Drama Department received the good news that its production of Dead Accounts received three San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle (SFBATCC) award nominations in the category for theatres with fewer than 100 seats. The nominations were for Entire Production, North Bay; Entire Production, Bay Area; and Ryan Martin, former COM student, received a Best Set Design nomination. The Excellence in Theatre Awards for 2015 will be presented March 28, 2016, at the Victoria Theatre in San Francisco. SFBATCC nominates and selects award winners as part of fulfilling its mission to promote and celebrate excellence in Bay Area theatre.

High praise came from actor, radio host, and SFBATCC member Mitchell Field. “College of Marin’s Drama department took the entire theatre community to school with a superb production of Theresa Rebeck’s Dead Accounts.  Elegantly scripted and ultra-timely family comedy,” said Field.

In 2014 the department was nominated for five Excellence in Theatre Awards in a house with more than 300 seats; and won three for The Taming of the Shrew in Best Costume Design (Patricia Polen), Best Ensemble, and Best Fight Choreography (Richard Squeri). Being recognized by the Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle is quite an accolade, as the College’s productions are represented alongside other highly regarded Bay Area theatre companies.

Department Chair Lisa Morse expressed what an honor it is to be nominated. “We are so excited to be nominated for these awards.  Being acknowledged by SFBATCC further validates the hard work and amazing talent of our students, staff, and faculty.  If you haven’t seen a show at College of Marin, you are missing out on great theater at a great price,” says Morse.

Last year the COM Drama Department celebrated 50 years of excellence on stage and continues to carry that distinction forward. The fanciful and poignant play Gossamer opens in March, followed by King Lear in April to close the 2015-16 season. More information about upcoming performances is available on the Drama Department website.
