Message Denouncing Russia's Attack Against Ukraine

March 2nd, 2022 - 4:56pm

Dear College Community:

As a community, we denounce all acts of violence and intimidation. College of Marin joins the worldwide movement to demand an immediate end to Russia’s unjustified attack against Ukraine and condemns the actions as an assault on freedom, independence, and democracy.

College of Marin stands in solidarity with Ukraine and those in surrounding regions experiencing senseless death and destruction as a result of Russia’s unprovoked aggression. This tragedy reminds us of the importance of remaining informed about world affairs to better understand the structural power and privilege that exist only for some, and at the expense of others. Sadly, amidst the crisis and unimaginable conditions, there have been reports of racism and unfair treatment of Africans, Indians, and other people of color trying to flee Ukraine.

We acknowledge the very real fear and trauma some may be experiencing due to the unrest, including students and employees of Ukrainian descent whose family and friends may be impacted by the fighting. Further, we acknowledge the concerns from our active-duty military service members around the possibility of being deployed again.

All of us have a responsibility to ensure that every member of our campus community has the care and support they need during these difficult times. If you need support or are struggling to cope with this crisis, resources are available.

If you need immediate support or are having serious thoughts of hurting yourself or others, call 911 or Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) at (415) 473-6666.

Psychological services are available for enrolled students. Services are free, confidential, and include therapy, consultations, crisis intervention, and referral. For more information about Psychological Services or to make an appointment, call (415) 485-9649.

Anthem’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is a confidential information, support, and referral service available to employees and their household members at no additional cost.
