ACCJC Accreditation Site Visit Takes Place March 7
On Thursday, March 7, the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) will be at College of Marin (COM) for a focused site visit.
The visiting Peer Review Team will validate COM’s self-evaluation report and then share its findings with the Commission for deliberation and determination of continued accreditation status later this spring. During the site visit, the team will take a tour, meet with selected faculty, staff, and administrators, and listen to feedback from campus and community members.
Background
The focused site visit is the culminating event for COM’s self-evaluation process, which began in 2023 with the development of the Institutional Self Evaluation Report (ISER). The ISER was submitted last summer and, after holding an open forum in October with COM via Zoom, the Peer Review Team met and developed one inquiry related to the program review process. The team will discuss their inquiry, which COM responded to in writing earlier this month, and include findings in their report. As ACCJC notes, “An accredited status from an institutional accreditor enables an institution to qualify for federal grants and contracts, to distribute federal financial aid to its students, and for students’ credits to be more easily transferred to other accredited institutions.”
Open Forum
An open forum will be held at 11 am in order for students, faculty, staff, and the public to provide the visiting team with feedback about the College.
Exit Session
The site visit will close with a brief exit session at 12:45 pm The team will share a recap of their visit and provide preliminary commendations and recommendations, which will form the basis of their report to the Commission. This session is open to all and will last approximately 15 minutes.
COM’s Institutional Self Evaluation Report and response to the Peer Review Team’s inquiry are available for review online:
