ACCJC Accreditation Site Visit Takes Place March 6-9

Community forums scheduled to provide visiting team with feedback

KENTFIELD, CA—February 21, 2017—College of Marin (COM) is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC), Western Association of Schools and Colleges—an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education.

COM is required to engage in a self-evaluation and peer review every seven years to ensure the institution is meeting the standards required by the Department of Education.  The College has been actively engaged in the self-evaluation process for the past eighteen months and submitted its self-evaluation report to the Commission in early January.

The College is scheduled to host a team of 11 faculty and administrators from peer colleges within the California Community College system for a site visit March 6 through 9, 2017.  The team is tasked with validating COM’s self-evaluation report and then reporting its findings to the Commission for deliberation and determination of continued accreditation status. A list of the visiting team members and their bios are available on COM’s accreditation website. During the site visit, the team will tour COM’s campuses; listen to feedback from internal and external communities of the College; and meet with students, faculty, staff, and administrators.

A brief, 30-minute opening session will be held on Monday, March 6. During this session, the team will introduce themselves and describe the site visit process.

On Tuesday, March 7, community forums will be held at each campus in order for students, faculty, staff, and the public to provide the visiting team with feedback about the College. To ensure attendees feel free to express whatever is on their minds, senior-level management and College Trustees will not be in attendance at the forums.

The site visit will close with a brief exit session on Thursday, March 9. The team will recap their visit and provide preliminary commendations and recommendations.

All sessions and forums are open to students, faculty, staff, and members of the public.
