How to Participate in Puente

COM Puente students at Kentfield Campus

What is Puente?

The Puente Project, a national award-winning program, for 40 years has improved the college-going rate of tens of thousands of California's students. Its mission is to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees and return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations. The English course will provide reading and writing assignments related to Latino issues and authors. The Counseling course and counselor will help prepare you for transfer. Also, you will be assigned a mentor for additional support and as a great resource for educational success.

To enroll, students need to be…

  1. Planning to transfer to a four-year college
  2. Able to enroll in Puente English, (Fall = ENGL 150, Spring = ENGL 155) and Puente Counseling class, (Fall = COUN 102, Spring = COUN 179)
  3. Able to attend 3 to 4 program field trips/events each semester
  4. Committed to meeting one-on-one with a mentor every month
