Dear College Employees,
It was great to see many of you (190-ish) during our staff Zoom meeting today. I continue to be impressed by the dedication and commitment that you are showing to our colleagues, students, and community during these unprecedented times.
As we discussed during the meeting, California Government Code section 3100 designates all public employees, including employees of school and college districts, as disaster service workers. Public employees assume the responsibility to serve as disaster service workers at the time they are hired. In the event of a declared national, state, or local emergency, College employees may be called into service to assist with relief efforts. Our work as disaster service workers would promote the protection of public health and safety or the preservation of lives and property. Employees serving as disaster service workers may be directed to perform disaster service work at their regular work site or at another location, either with the College or with other government agencies. College employees serving as disaster service workers would be compensated as though they were at their regular job.
Marin County’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) has asked all public school districts to be ready to respond to any need for disaster service workers during the anticipated surge in COVID-19 cases. Accordingly, all College employees must complete the Disaster Service Worker Survey by Friday, April 10, at 5 p.m. The survey information is essential to helping us serve our community during this crisis.
In closing, let me again acknowledge that I know how extraordinarily challenging these times have been for you. I want to express my profound gratitude to each of you for rising to the occasion so the College can continue serving our community.
Be safe and stay healthy!
Respectfully,
David
