Marin Oratorio presents Georg Friedrich Handel
Dixit Dominus and Ode for St. Cecilia's Day
Boyd Jarrell, director
The compass of Handel's remarkable career is highlighted by this pairing of Handel's youthful Dixit Dominus (Psalm 109) and his mature Ode for St. Cecilia's Day, written when Handel was just 22 years old, show off a precocious mastery of counterpoint, dramatic musical gesture, and astonishing energy. Ode for St. Cecilia's Day is a setting of John Dryden's apocalyptic poem about music's creative and destructive powers. And music shall untune the sky!
The 110-voice Marin Oratorio chorus and orchestra will be joined by guest vocal soloists Christa Pfeiffer, Winnie Nieh, Karen Clark, and Mark Bonney.
