About the Fine Arts Department

The College of Marin Fine Arts Department provides a strong foundation in the basics of design, composition, and problem-solving that are fundamental to the creation of art works. Students can explore and perfect their skills in a wide variety of media—sculpture, ceramics, photography, jewelry, drawing, painting, printmaking, and fiber sculpture. They can also develop skills in gallery management and can become competent in the architectural skills of model-making, design, and computer assisted design. Finally, students can take a broad range of art history classes.

Fine Arts Faculty

At College of Marin, class sizes range from 20–40 to give students the most individualized attention. Faculty members are active, professional artists, art historians, and curators who bring their background and knowledge into the classroom. Their philosophy is to provide students with the personal guidance needed to instill the skills for lifelong learning.  Students leave the classroom and the program confident, inspired, and prepared.

Beyond the Classroom

Education doesn’t end in the classroom. The College of Marin Fine Arts Department also offers lectures by guest artists, art historians, and critics to allow students to benefit from the widest possible range of experience and knowledge. Students can join a student art organization and see the work of major regional artists in the College of Marin Fine Arts Gallery. They travel to Bay Area museums and galleries, taking in both permanent and temporary visiting exhibitions.
