KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—College of Marin (COM) will be holding its annual Commencement and Transfer Recognition Ceremony on Friday, May 26, at 6 p.m. at Pieper Field, 700 College Avenue in Kentfield.

The event will commemorate the accomplishments of 399 students who completed a certificate, degree, or transfer degree. Among these students is our most mature graduate, Michele Liapes, who earned a certificate in natural history; and 16-year-old Shylah Waugh, the youngest member of this year’s graduating class, who earned an associate of arts degree for transfer in psychology.

During the past academic year, some 123 students earned an associate of arts degree; 85 earned an associate of science degree; 118 earned an associate of arts degree for transfer; 47 earned an associate of science degree for transfer; and 88 earned a certificate of achievement. This is a combined total of 461 degrees and certificates of achievement awarded by the College.

Additionally, the College recognizes that transfer students may or may not earn a degree while at COM, depending on their educational goal, and anticipates that several hundred students will transfer to a baccalaureate degree granting college or university.

Emma Neal, Associated Students of College of Marin President, and transfer student Matthew Crome were selected as this year’s student speakers. Read more about the Class of 2023 student speakers.

COM Superintendent/President Dr. David Wain Coon looks forward to celebrating the accomplishments of COM’s graduate and transfer students.

“This year’s ceremony will be bittersweet as it will be the last ceremony I preside over as superintendent/president,” said Dr. Coon. “It has been my honor to witness families and friends of our students as they celebrate this achievement and wish them all the best in their next steps.”
