The Government Inspector
By Nikolai Gogol
Lisa Morse, director
Also known as The Inspector General, this play is a rollicking satire by Russian novelist and playwright Nikolai Gogol. Located in a provincial Russian town headed by Mayor Anton Antonovich, a collection of corrupt politicians and administrators feverishly attempt to cover up their misdeeds when they hear a Government Inspector will arrive--incognito--to investigate the city. “The streets haven’t been swept for months and there are chickens in the courthouse!” Mistaken identity, deception, and utter madness ensue as political leaders do their best to bribe their way out of a mess!
