KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—The Marin Community College District (MCCD) Board of Trustees is changing the way Trustees will be elected. In the past, Trustees were elected "at-large," where each Trustee was elected by all voters throughout Marin County. Under the new system, Trustees will be elected by voters from within the area a Trustee would represent. Trustees will also be required to live in the area they are representing. This type of election, called a By-Trustee-Area election, is to ensure there is better representation for all communities who live within MCCD's boundaries.
In following the California Voting Rights Act and the Elections and Education Codes, MCCD is holding a final public hearing to show the draft maps and hear from the community before the maps are finalized.
To let MCCD know what you think the maps should look like, you can create your own map utilizing the Districtr website or you can take one of the previously created maps and modify it, then submit the map for consideration by the Board of Trustees. Click here for a tutorial.
Two draft map scenarios (Scenario 1 and Scenario 2) are available for your public comment at the December 14, 2021, 5 p.m. public hearing or by commenting in the form.
MCCD encourages you to create your own map, review the draft map scenarios, and attend to give feedback at one of the two meetings or through MCCD's Redistricting webpage.

KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—El Consejo Administrativo del Distrito del Colegio Comunitario de Marin (MCCD) va a cambiar la manera de elegir sus miembros.
En el pasado, los miembros eran elegidos por voto general, en el que cada Miembro era elegido por votantes de todo el condado de Marin. Bajo el nuevo sistema, los Miembros serán elegidos por votantes del área que el Miembro representaría. También se le requerirá que viva en el área que representará. Este tipo de elección, llamada elección según el área del Miembro del Consejo Administrativo, es para asegurar que haya mejor representación para todas las comunidades que viven dentro de los límites del distrito del colegio comunitario.
En cumplimiento con la Ley de Derecho al Voto de California y los Códigos Electorales y de la Educación, MCCD tendrá una audiencia pública final para exhibir los bocetos de mapas y oir los comentarios de la comunidad antes de que se finalicen los mapas.
