As College leaders weeks like this one pose exceptional challenges. We are tasked with supporting so many people—students, faculty, staff, and even community members and partners—while wrestling with our own feelings about what is taking place—and what might come next—at the national level. In times of uncertainty when many of our most vulnerable now have even more reason to be fearful and question their belonging, our individual and collective leadership is more important than ever.
Remember, our commitments to each other as outlined in the attached document provide good guidance in this regard. If we continue to model hope and optimism, we will help those who count on us. If we live and lead within our values, the College will continue to be a safe space. If we practice generous listening and curiosity, we will bring people closer together. If we exercise our agency for change, we will fend off threats to our mission. And if we take care of each other, we will be okay.
Take some well-deserved time away this long weekend to recharge. We have great opportunities in the weeks and months ahead to go along with the hard work to come.
Thank you for all you do.
Jonathan
