Preliminary Outcome of Accreditation Site Visit

March 7th, 2024 - 4:12pm

KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—Today was College of Marin’s (COM) focused site visit with the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) visiting Peer Review Team. While COM will not receive official word on its accreditation status until the Commission meets in June, the visiting team did share what they will be communicating in their report to the Commission for their consideration.

The team indicated they found the College meets all accreditation standards, with no recommendations for improvement. This is excellent news and a testament to the thoughtful, process- and data-driven work taking place every day on COM campuses.

The team also commended the College on its robust, coherent, equity-focused planning process; which includes program review, student learning outcomes (SLO) assessment, and resource allocations. A commendation is reserved for those instances where a College has a truly exemplary process or program—and this is rare accomplishment. It is a testament to the dedication of everyone who works on behalf of COM students, ensuring the best possible education is provided. Additionally, it was noted that this work is done from within the institution’s values—and with a deep appreciation of COM’s responsibility to recognize the historical and systemic disparities in opportunity and outcomes that persist in education and direct resources to address those disparities.

Over the next few weeks, the final report from the team will be finalized and then sent to the Commission for review. There is an opportunity for the College to review for fact and correct any errors before the report goes before the Commission at their June meeting for final determination. College administrators expect to be notified of the determination in mid-June.

COM’s Institutional Self Evaluation Report and response to the Peer Review Team’s inquiry are available for review online:
