Safe Space Training

SAFE SPACE AT COM

What is Safe Space?

The mission of the Safe Space program is to identify, educate, and support allies. Safe Space allies are committed to creating a safe and supportive academic environment through educational opportunities and advocating for the needs and concerns of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer/Questioning students as well as building a community space that does not tolerate physical, verbal or sexual violence.

Safe Spaces at College of Marin include individual allies, their work space, and/or personal space and are easily indicated by the display of a Safe Space placard. Faculty, staff, and students ambassadors who voluntarily participate in the Safe Space ally program demonstrate their commitment, support and advocacy for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex and Queer/Questioning community.

Safe Space is only one part of College of Marin's commitment to Diversity and Equity

The mission of the Diversity and Equity Advisory Committee (DEAC) at College of Marin focuses on student issues of safety and social justice within our college community. We foster a safe and sustainable academic, cultural, and social environment by supporting difference and diversity, equal access to education, and forums for social justice. DEAC advises the Student Access and Success Committee.
