Puente Project

The Puente Project, a national award-winning program, for 30 years has improved the college-going rate of tens of thousands of California's students. Its mission is to increase the number of educationally disadvantaged students who enroll in four-year colleges and universities, earn college degrees and return to the community as mentors and leaders to future generations. The English course will provide reading and writing assignments related to Latino issues and authors. The Counseling course and counselor will help prepare you for transfer. Also, you will be assigned a mentor for additional support and as a great resource for educational success.

Puente is open to all students who are eligible for the English course (English 150 for the fall, and English 155 for the Spring.)

Outstanding Results

Over 5,500 students have enrolled in the Puente community college program. Over 2,000 professionals donate over 18,000 hours annually to Puente students.

An estimated 200,000 non-Puente students have benefited from Puente’s staff development programs. Community colleges with Puente programs transfer 44 percent more Latino students to the University of California than colleges without Puente.

College of Marin's Puente Program has produced outstanding results.

Puente students are twice as likely to:

  • succeed in English 150 the first time taken;
  • achieve transfer-prepared status at COM (60 CSU/UC transferable units with GPA>=2.0).
