KENTFIELD / NOVATO, CA—November 13, 2018—Leaders from Associated Students of College of Marin (ASCOM) have organized a walkout and film screening that will take place on November 14 at the Kentfield Campus as part of activities happening around the Bay Area for United Against Hate Week, November 11 through 18.

The peaceful protest is being coordinated with COM’s Campus Police Department to help ensure the safety of all those who choose to participate. Students, faculty, staff, and administrators will gather at 12:30 p.m. on the lawn in front of the Student Services Center before beginning a march through campus. At 7 p.m. ASCOM will host a film screening of Walking in Oak Creek and student panel discussion in Academic Center, room 255.

The call for a week of action is designed to bring communities together and facilitate a dialogue that results in learning, discovery of local concerns, and possible solutions to how our communities can continue to stand up against hate.

Not In Our Town, a leading anti-hate organization, has supported efforts to reject messages of hate following the tragic events in Charlottesville, North Carolina, and subsequent hate group rallies that took place across the Bay Area in 2017.

ASCOM is urging the campus community to stand up against hate and voice their concerns to elected officials.
