You may be aware that major structural issues have led to the closure of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge. This is what is known as of 1 p.m. today based on news reports and information provided by the Marin County Office of Emergency Services:
- Large chunks of concrete were reported falling from the upper deck onto the lower deck.
- Traffic was stopped in both directions. Cars on the bridge were escorted off by the CHP.
- While some news reports indicate that the bridge may be reopening this afternoon, there is not yet confirmation about reopening from CHP or Caltrans.
Significant traffic issues will occur countywide. We will continue to be in contact with the Marin County Sheriff and OES. As more information becomes available we will be sure to inform you. Also, @CHPMarin on twitter, and Nixle will continue to provide the most consistent and up to date information.
The College will remain open at this time, however, we recognize that we have both employees and students who traverse that bridge each day and others who may be impacted by increased traffic patterns. Each of us has our own circumstances, including dependent care obligations, transportation, health/medical conditions, and more that we must factor into our decisions as to whether we need to leave school/work early. Please be flexible to accommodate this disruption to normal operations. This situation may not be resolved in the short term.

Alternate Routes around Richmond San Rafael Bridge
As of 3 p.m. there is one lane open each direction on the Richmond San Rafael Bridge. Even with one lane open, traffic is expected to be extremely heavy across the span. Alternate routes would be US 101 northbound to SR 37 eastbound or US 101 southbound to the Golden Gate Bridge.
