Letter to Campus Community RE: ACCJC Action for College of Marin

Dear Campus Community:

Earlier this month the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) met to review our Institutional Self-Evaluation Report (ISER) and the External Evaluation Team’s report, including the preliminary recommendations and commendations the team shared with us when they visited campus in March.

The Commission reaffirmed the College’s accreditation for seven years, with the requirement that we submit a follow-up report by October 1, 2018, on the issues identified in the team’s findings.

This means College of Marin is in substantial compliance with ACCJC Standards. However, we have two particular compliance areas that must be resolved and documented with evidence in the October follow-up report. We will devote much campus conversation during Flex Week and beyond to how we might best resolve these deficiencies.

Also, we will need to respond to the 11 recommendations for improvement.  The College will then document and provide evidence of having addressed these recommendations, along with the institution’s planned changes shown in the ISER Quality Focus Essay, in our standard midterm report due by March 15, 2021.

Both the ACCJC letter and evaluation team report have been posted online at http://accreditation.marin.edu/home. Direct links are as follows:

This is good news! Our success is due to the dedication and hard work of people who participated in the accreditation process and everyone at the College who commits every day to the success of our students. We have work ahead of us to resolve the recommendations, but we will do so through an inclusive, focused approach with an eye toward continuous improvement over the next 18 months, 36 months, and beyond.

Thank you for all you do—and enjoy the holiday weekend.

Jonathan
