Fall 2019 Flex Week: August 12 – August 16

(This is a mandatory Flex day for full-time faculty.)

The Professional Learning Committee has a great slate of activities scheduled for this semester's Flex Week including:

  • Grading for Equity: What Does This Mean for Your Class? A follow-up workshop by Joe Feldman from Spring Convocation. Monday, August 12, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m., AC 255. Includes lunch and a copy of Grading for Equity for all who register by August 7. This session occurs as part of the Department Chairs' meeting, but all faculty are encouraged to attend.
  • Fostering Student Success Series: A set of three workshops taking place on Tuesday, August 13 focusing on supporting students.
  • Wellness Fair: The COM Health and Wellness Fair will showcase local and on-campus health and wellness resources to assist you in your wellness journey, Wednesday, August 14 after Convocation.
  • Expanding Your Equity Toolkit: A series of workshops dedicated to developing effective teaching practices and a better understanding of equity, taking place Thursday, August 15.

Please note changes to the Convocation Day events: On Wednesday, August 14, there will be a meet and greet before Convocation with coffee and tea only. Convocation begins at 9 a.m. Light refreshments will be served after Convocation at the Wellness Fair. Flex credit is available for Convocation, UPM meeting, department meetings, and Let's Talk Benefits session.

The Flex At-A-Glance Calendar, Flex descriptions, and detailed Flex information are available on the Professional Learning webpage.

Flex activities are open to all employees. Log into MyCOM and go to ProLearning to see the complete Flex calendar and register for sessions.

Flex days are set aside for professional development in lieu of teaching. All credit and non-credit faculty have a Flex professional development requirement based on teaching load. The Flex requirement for librarians, counselors, school nurse, and Child Development program faculty is based on workload. Faculty can find their Flex obligation in their contracts and on the ProLearning Welcome page where it will be updated for the new semester on the first day of classes.
